The scope for this build was to keep as true as possible to the original vehicle with modern improvements for useability and refinement
In keeping with this, the engine choice had to be the last version of the original pushrod V8 as offered in the 2004 Land Rover Discovery.
This is mated to the last manual gearbox offered in the Defender, the MT82 6-speed.
The uniqueness of this vehicle lies in the details; The iconic Keswick Green and Old English White paint over a sumptuous but clean Saddle Brown leather interior keeps with this design aesthetic. Surrounded by sisal carpets, the old English gauges, burlwood steering wheel and dash round up the feel.
For added comfort during the colder months, heated seats have been included.
INDEPENDENT’s logo was craftly hand painted on each of the doors to further enhance the level of detail portrayed in the Defender.
Agulhas 1 is the first of many in a new age of custom Land Rovers, it sets a new industry standard for detail, innovation, and luxury. This Defender is a reminder of modern ingenuity complimenting Land Rover heritage.
Agulhas 1 is unique in that it shares a true DNA linked to the beginning of the Defender model.
Introduced to the world in 1983 along with the 110 Station Wagon, the Land Rover 110 HCPU (High Capacity Pick Up) had a 1.3 Tonne load carrying capacity and a low-compression 3.5L V8 engine (specifically introduced to be able to run on low-quality fuel)
Specs were 90.7hp and 167 lb-ft of torque
Paired to the V8 engine was a 4-speed manual LT95 (LT - Leyland Transmission) and an integrated 2-speed transfer case with vacuum-operated diff lock.
